Rolf Structural Integration | Somatic Psychology
Structural Integration is a scientifically validated body therapy focusing on the protective layers of fascia that give the body its shape. Fascia is the all-pervasive web of connective tissue that surrounds, binds, and connects muscles, bones, and organs. Fascia is the living architecture of the body, the "organ of form." The continual pull of gravity, combined with the accumulated stresses of injury and daily activity, pulls the body out of alignment. Fascial tissues are dynamic and over time adapt to the various stresses imposed upon the human organism. Structural Integration aligns and balances the body by lengthening and repositioning the fascia. An aligned and balanced body moves with ease and requires less energy to function. Good posture becomes effortless and breathing is easier. The body becomes more flexible, more coordinated. Chronic pains diminish or even disappear. This work is about finding freedom. "This is the gospel of Rolfing: When the body gets working appropriately, the force of gravity can flow through. Then, spontaneously, the body heals itself."
