James Lee Counsellor, M.A. is a Rolf practitioner and psychotherapist in private practice, trained and certified by the Guild for Structural Integration in Boulder, Colorado. He considers himself fortunate to have studied directly with senior teachers trained by Dr. Ida Rolf and second generation instructors dedicated to her traditional teachings. He is also an honors graduate of the Boulder College of Massage Therapy where he specialized in Orthopedic, Sports, and Neuromuscular therapies.
His diverse experience includes working with the Division I and II NCAA athletic programs at the University of Colorado and the University of Denver. In rehabilitative settings he has worked with patients at the Boulder Community Hospital and the affiliated Neurologic and Orthopedic Rehabilitation Center at Mapleton. While living in Istanbul, he had the unique experience of working with Turkish clients at an international yoga studio. His private practice has principally been in Boulder and New York City.
Jamie’s academic background includes graduate education in counseling psychology. As a training clinician, he interned with a nationally recognized expert in the area of risk assessment for juvenile offenders and developed expertise in the treatment of children with complex trauma histories. He holds degrees from Michigan State University and Antioch University New England. He had a brief career as a child & family therapist in the Vermont mental health system before resigning to pursue a new life in the somatic arts. He maintains a limited counseling license in Michigan.
Originally certified as a Sivananda yoga teacher, Jamie has been a student of the Ashtanga yoga of K. Pattabhi Jois for more than a decade. He studied at the Ashtanga Yoga Research Institute in Mysore, India from 2003-2004 and in 2007. More recently he undertook an in-depth exploration of the Iyengar yoga system. He believes the principles and practices of yoga can be a strong compliment to the work of Structural Integration.
